Extra road fees?

Ok folks. So I read in the paper that the city has been approached by a company proposing a (user ) or maintenance fees for road work. The study would cost 15k to establish what the fees would be..

Should the city A. Spend the 15k to know how much extra to Tax the citizens for road work
Or B ask the citizens of the city if they want to be taxed more for the roads
Or C tell that company to take a hike a go pedal their b.s. else where.

Missed the article and don't understand what is proposed. A private company will do street maintenance for a fee? Or they are studying a tax increase for street work? More details please.

The article is in Fridays edition of the highlander. Basically it states that a new strategy to pay for street improvements through transportation utility fees ,billed like water and wastewater fees was presented by Chris erkut of newGen strategies and solutions.
They could be considered user or maintenance fees.
Council member Norman asked if these would turn our streets into toll roads.
The fees could range from $3 to 14 a month.
The cost of the study to establish fees would be 15k, and Hodge noted that a utility fee was just one possibility the council might consider. It definitely seems like God had his???

Is the city crazy???? What on earth are they thinking? This is right up there with the multiple blunders they have committed in the past. Is there no end to their inability to govern and manage our tax dollars?
Huckster comes to mind when I think about this scheme.

Thanks for those details, Caretaker. Yes, the City is crazy. We pay taxes. Taxes include amounts for road maintenance, or should. This would be an additional tax by another name, just like the federal government constantly does. It would gather money from an untaxed source in the form of renters who don't directly pay property taxes. But they do in the sense that their rent is based in part on city taxes.

The City should be transparent about this. If more money is needed for road maintenance (and the roads certainly need that!) then they should (a) search the budget to eliminate waste and re-prioritize, and (b) "man up" and raise the tax rate to furnish adequate funding if it truly cannot be carved out from other areas.

Most people do not know it is even been proposed. Once it hits the council for funding the study is when a few will even think about it. And it probably won't get most saying anything until after it gets put in place. A lot of people may not even notice if it were a part of monthly bill.
