Why did El Rio close ?
Anybody know why El Rio, the lakeside service station and convenience store on Lake LBJ in Kingsland on Highway 1431 closed? It was one of the few gas stations to offer service for gassing up your boat from the water. Are there any other such gas fill up stations on Lake LBJ these days?

There are several. One is under the 1431 bridge south and on the other side, one in Sunrise Beach, another in Big Sandy close to sand bar, another at HSZb, and one near the dam at Granite Beach.

It's for sale, 2 million bucks...that means it will never be a gas station again in my opinion. Probably now a future condo site.

Back to the original question.......I dont believe they were able to sell alcohol. I know 5 yrs ago they werent.
Then, 10 months ago Buddies opened up just a couple of miles away in Kingsland - lotsa competition.....The only big draw for El Rio was the boat ramp. I presume it wasnt enough to save them. |
