Question "Steel Magnolias" at Hill Country Community Theatre

OBSERVATIONS on VOLUNTEERISM: Do citizens in the HSB-MF-Burnet-Llano area realize what an affordable "gem" they have in HCCT?
When the curtain falls this (Sunday) afternoon on the fourth of eight scheduled performances of this heartwarming story of parenting, sacrifice and friendship, more than 525 people will have (hopefully) enjoyed "live theatre" at its best in the Burnet-Llano County area. The six actresses -- a 7th takes the mother M'Lynn role for the unusually scheduled MON-TUE-WED. shows this week -- have accumulated more than 1,200 hours in learning lines and blocking (stage moves), preparing costumes, wigs, make-up and set decoration. Then there are those beyond the stage lights -- the set builders, prop folks, stage manager, lighting and sound design specialists, box office/greeters/concessionnaires, Gala Night Committee, HCCT leaders, Theatre Guild members who pile on more hours to make this production and the playhouse as "inviting" as possible. Add hundreds and hundreds of more hours of dedicated commitment. Plus, businesses and merchants advertise and provide in-kind services, set pieces and discounts.

"Live theatre" is a H U G E undertaking. BUT for patrons -- and a number of surprised first-timers this past week -- it was a mere $7 to $15 for two-plus hours of up close and personal entertainment. That's a bargain when you think of the HUGE investment to deliver the program. No long drives. No expensive plane trips. No costly hotel bills. HCCT, marking it's Silver Anniversary Season, deserves your support and your patronage. Don't try it for the complimentary wine. Don't just attend to win. (They are giving away about $3,300 worth of salon services, products, tools and dental services in nightly drawings.) GO FOR THE SHOW!

And about this play . . . April is National "Donate Life" Month. (You know, blood, tissue, organs if/when you sign your driver's license or register.) The mother donates a kidney to her diabetic daughter . . . and, well, you'll just have to see the funniest show to ever cry. YES, guys, you, too! Last night the big man on my section of four connected seats was laughing so hard, he shook four of us sitting in the row. Honest!
Besides, it's EASTER WEEK, and isn't it appropriate that this was when the greatest life of all was "donated" on our behalf?

GO -- SEE -- DO! Get involved with HCCT on either side of the footlights...and with your family and friends! LIVE THEATRE is a life-changing experience. Trust me on this. ( And please share my pride in what all these great "community" volunteers have accomplished.

What an enjoyable evening of entertainment and laughs.

This production is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of HCCT. We in the Hill Country are blessed with an excellent variety of talented performers. Keep up the good work you are doing.

I personally think residents of Cottonwood Shores should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting this local venue right within walking distance of the your home. It was mentioned before the performance that the Director had designated last night Cottonwood Shores night and only 2 attendees admitted to being from there when this was mentioned. That is shameful. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity before it is too late. This performance was very enjoyable as I'm certain they all are.
