There was a drowning on Lake Travis, late Saturday. That's all I've heard of.

The boat hit a granite outcropping traveling at a high rate of speed. The four people in the boat were all ejected and the boat landed on top of the rocks. A 23-year-old Midland woman was killed - she died en route to the hospital via helicopter (all were air lifted to Brackenridge)

Night time, right? Even in the daylight it pays to know your water. Believe that was on the Colorado arm near the Inks Lake dam. "Everyone" knows that's rocky. Boats are treated as toys and not as serious and potentially dangerous machines. Add some alcohol (assuming) and ....

This is a horrible tradegy. I've done business with the father of the driver and daughter that were involved. the driver had proposed to the deceased the night before it happened. He is attempting to attend the funeral today.

Agreed you should know the water you travel. I sold my boat, but was skeered of LBJ after dark.

So extremely sad! You would think that a granite area in the lake would be marked. We have markers in no wake zones, you would think unsafe areas would be marked. This is so tragic.

That area does have a buoy stating that there is shallow water and rocks ahead. However, it is several hundred yards before you get to the rocks. Probably to give you more time to slow down and turn around. Also this occurred at night, and the buoy would not be visible unless they spotlighted it. I have had my boat into that area (at dead slow speed), and there are plenty of rocks just below the surface in addition to the ones you can plainly see. Even at night that rock should have been visible if you were looking!

I don't see how he got an inboard up that far in the first place, unless flying up on plane, but even then.......
