Woe now countryboy. Ya might wanna back that train up a little. . IMO i think you are not understanding how a PID is taxed. And who gets taxed.. I do not believe the entire ETJ of the city can be taxed. Only the area IN the flatrock development, Because they are the ones that BENEFIT from it. Would the folks on the North, west or east side benefit from it. Not really unless they see a Public golf course ,city parks across town as an asset. EXAMPLE of a PID;HSB has the Escondido PID..The tax was levied against the individual lots and could be paid off in one lump some or with say a 30year note. It is essentially a Financing tool.It has other advantages to be used. MF had emplemented water and sewage impact fees several years back right after flatrock was annexed into the city. If they were still charged those fees. MFs could recoup well over 4mil.. If they get approval of this PID.Will they still tack on those impact fees. Also will the county charge them rollback taxes once it looses the AG status. 3 to 5 years of back taxes based on its current assessedmarket value would bring in a signifigant amount of dollars to the city right off the bat. It will be interesting how this plays out. |

Ok folks, it's time to "get your mad on and go to town", to the council meeting that is.
Tonight's agenda calls for the following, among the normal regular issues: 1. Appointment of a council person for the Texas Colorado River Floorplain Coalition Board. 2. Appointment of a council person for the Downtown Master Plan Committee 3. They will be hearing from the Burnet Central Appraisal District including the upcoming assessments for next year. 4. Consideration of banning all Flashing signs at businesses. 5. AND discussion and action regarding the award of a contract for the remodel of the old library for the use of the EDC. This one really gets me, with money as it is, short everywhere, why can't Ms. Olivia and crew use the building as it is. Sweep it out, clean the windows and put them in there. When there is truly SURPLUS money down the road let the EDC spend their tax money to remodel it. Folks, it's time to get your mad on and come to town! This meeting starts at 6pm and the council chambers needs to be full of folks who are "mad as hell and not going to take this any more". Action speaks much louder than griping over coffee and the day after. Show them you have had enough!

Well folks. The TAXES are going up again.
. Only one Council member vote NO against rasing them And it wasnt the Tea party guy.. Funny how The citizens took action by passing the Exemption for elderly and disabled last election, but once again the Council stuck it right back to them. An in your face bit is what this was.. They seem to be very content on Tax and Spend. I hope the VOTERs who put these guys in office are happy now.

Reminds me of what a university president once said to me "Don't confuse me with the facts as I have already made up my mind". Butch |

tough times have befallen the school district too. they managed NOT to raise taxes. how did they do it. for starters, each department cut 30% of expenditures. has that been considered at all by the city? methinks some city departments have avoided deep cuts altogether....

City speaks out of both sides of mouth to employees!
They preach/nay harp to the employees to shop local. Spend their money here. But, they don't have the money to spend because their health care deductible is $1000 - $2500 per year and going up again this next year. They don't have the money to spend, because they are trying to keep their families well. THEN, they say, "Well, if you didn't run to the doctor every time somebody sneezes, the cost wouldn't go up." But, THEN, in the same breath, they make a city-wide policy that says "if you use your sick leave, you have to have a Dr excuse", or after 5 times in a year, they'll take it out of your vacation time. So, even if you have a 24 hr bug, or, the most prevalent, you have to stay home with a sick kid 'cuz the daycare won't take them, you still have to go to the DR for an excuse, to use a benefit that's part of your employment package. If you have a family, do you think this won't happen more than 5 times is a year? And every time you are forced to go to the Dr for an excuse (kind of like being in the 3rd grade), the insurance goes up again. Talk about "Catch 22"! They don't tell the whole story when advertising for employment, either. They figure the sick leave in as part of the advertised "compensation package", but they don't tell the whole story. The unsuspecting new-hire has to learn the real truth the hard way. Last edited by curious; 08-14-2010 at 09:43 AM. |
