Burnet CISD

A recent salary survey showed that the Burnet CISD salaries were pretty much in line with other similar sized schools in Texas, EXCEPT, the Superintendant's salary is 60% ABOVE the state average. And now the school board is spending $25,000+ to remodel the room they meet in. At the same time, they are laying off classroom teachers' aides to save money. How greedy can you get?

Also districts are not hiring teachers with experience because they would rather pay new and unproven college graduates rather than the higher salary of experienced teachers. I heard today that MFISD is increasing maximum class sizes to avoid having to hire elementary classroom teachers.

Can't say I am surprised. Hope people are ready for our drop out rate to sky rocket as more kids fall through the cracks. Also more teachers will start becoming more frustrated and give up the profession as well. I for one would not blame them!
As for the effect it will have on the almighty TAKS well I won't even go there...

That's OK, just don't go messing with football coaches salaries or football stadiums! Wonder why no one suggests reducing the sports budget and laying off coaches before academic teachers?

Why do we need superintendent's with PhD's anyway? They don't teach so why should they hold teacher's cert's? Couldn't we do like hospitals who have administrators who aren't doctors? Let the admin people do the admin and let the doc's practice medicine. Likewise, let the teachers teach and let business administrator do the admin. Radical!

Doesn't matter. The TRUE dropout rate is huge already. Ask the schools how they calculate the dropout rate. It's the way the State mandates, but it really does not measure the number of kids who never finish divided by the total kids. There is probably no way to measure the true rate for just one school, but for the state overall it has to be 40% or more never finish high school. Just ask around.

What I want to know is, why are they going to need football coaches and athletic departments for homeschooled kids anyway when they completely destroy the schools, which is their primary aim? When Perry wanted to put a woman in charge of the state's school system who home-schooled her kids and doesn't believe in the public school system, what does that tell you? What would they call their football team? Let's have a contest to name the home-school football teams!!

The Captives?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I've seen too many home-schooled girls jump up and get married immediately after they finish high school. (Marry, have children, divorce, blah, blah, blah) It's as if they've been denied enough opportunity to socialize, and they want to make up for lost time.

Our former superintendent "altered" the records so it didn't appear the drop-out rate was as high as it really was. If a student stopped coming to class, he showed they moved out of state or out of the country so the records would be harder to trace.

Our daughter graduated from High School in May and was married by the following October and she wasn't Homeschooled. Some kids whether they are Homsechooled or graduate from the Public School System march to the beat of their own drum! Doesn't matter where or how they receive their education.
At the rate the Public Schools are going we are ALL going o be Homeschooling!

Truthfully, nobody really needs a football team! If the football (and other sports) were removed from each district and placed under UIL as a separate entity (funded totally by the UIL, i.e. state) we could devote schools to teaching academics rather the serving as a "minor" league training ground, taxpayer funded, for colleges and pro's.

But, try telling that to rural Texans! Oh, my, what an uproar would happen!

How about when a teacher is caught helping a student on the TAKS test? The teachers aide (whistle blower) was transferred to another school and the teacher is still there. Everyone else that was privy to this was threatened with their job if the told anyone. Some things never change in Burnet. They have "Don't ask, don't tell" about everything!

Your saying that homeschoolers dont have enough socialization.. And that they get married right after they graduate.(Horsehockey.). Its seems real funny to me that MFs high as well as many other PUBLIC schools have daycare for teenage moms.. Sounds like waaaaay toooooo much socialization to me. After all. Public schools are for socialists IMO.

OK this is off topic. If you want to debate homeschool vs. public school start another thread.
