I was out of pocket for about a week earlier this month. Does anyone know the exact plan for the construction along FM 1431 west of town? I looked on the City's website and didn't find any obvious place to check.
Thanks!
I don't know, but it seems like I am the only one who heeds the 45 MPH posted speed limit. Everyone zooms right past me, no cops in sight in the afternoon.

Stands to reason, that the faster you get through a danger zone, the safer you should be................RIGHT????

Thank you for mentioning the folks who disregard the 45 mph posted speeds in the work zone along FM 1431. I, too, have been passed or had someone ride my bumper (especially during busy traffic times) because I maintain 45 mph.
I have seen at least a half dozen people pulled over by MFPD or BCSO. If they had the resources to dedicate an officer to that stretch of FM1431 when the workers are there, I'm sure they would.
People: the lower speed limit is taken very seriously by law enforcement. There are people's lives on the line (including your own). Please pay attention! The fines are much steeper for speeding in a work zone, and you will get ticketed (no warning) for even 5 mph over. (Remember the "tasered granny" on hwy 71 recently.)
Drive safely!

They are adding a turn lane and widening the road accordingly.

I get people wanting to zoom right past me everyday even in a school zone..And I,m traveling 1431 towards the M Mile.Luckily the cops are there and and nabbing those who are impatient.

Well, I forgot about the work zone and got a ticket going through there at 11:30 at night. Not a car on the road. Doesn't make sense to have to slow down when no one's working. Now I'm sure to go slow and yes, everyone is passing me up!

It doesn't matter if there is anyone working or if there are any cars on the road, the speed limit is 45 mph. If there are workers present, the fines are doubled.

The lower speed limit is also for your safety as well as the workers.

I just wish they would set the barrels a little better. Twice, I've come around a curve or been behind a large truck that hampered my vision and suddenly had to stop when the first barrel to tell you to get over is sticking out in the lane and the arrow sign is back behind another 20 feet or so...

I've always wondered why people are in such a hurry that 45 is so inconvenient for them, just because our cars or trucks have speedometers that go up to 100 plus doesn't mean we have to always drive fast...

Unless I'm using cruise control I find it extremely hard to watch the speedometer and drive defensively at the same time! I'm sorry, but I find driving thru MF with all these differing speed limits which seem to change every 50 yards extremely stressful.
I'm paranoid to say the least.

I have the same problem. Down south, a speed limit stays the same for the most part except a slow down in town. Here, between windy roads and speed changes, driving is much more difficult.

I got this information from a pretty good source yesterday but not confirming its 100% accurate.
I was informed that they are making the road wider, not only for a turn lane but that they were getting ready to build a new H-E-B Plus!
The information made since to me because a year and a half ago a H-E-B employee explained to me that they don't own the property where they are currently at. They pay very high rent and are responsible for all upkeep and upgrades on building and parking lot. I was informed the store was looking to build in the near future.
Putting the 2 sources together made sense to me and if this is a fact, I am thrilled!
A H-E-B Plus is kind of like a Wal-Mart. They sell food but also other things like electronics and such.

I don't doubt the facts as far as either the HEB or lease. I as well as most food places in town, have a triple net lease whereas we pay huge rent, pay all maintenance, tax, and insurance. Pretty sweet deal for the owners, until a business can't make it due to costs.

Well, I hope the rumor is true about a new HEB. It is so congested over at the HEB I just dread going over there. They need a much larger parking area and that gas station always has a huge line to maneuver around.

Primadonna, there are some spectacular times to shop at HEB and get gas when there is always an available gas pump, always lots of parking, and plenty of open space inside the store. You just have to learn to avoid "prime times" when 90% of people go shopping. I have my favorite times, but they are top secret <grin>.
