Someone posted about dogs being fed anti-freeze causing staggering/drunken like behavior. I can't find it.
Should they show such symptoms what is the best thing to do immediately ? Is there an antidote?
Also, I caught one of my puppies eating one of the many mushrooms that have sprung in the yard and in flower pots with all the rain.
Her behavior was altered as mentioned above for a short time. (Yes I know about "shrooms", no I have never tried them) Could that be the problem instead of anti-freeze?

If she drank antifreeze I would think you should call the Vet for advice on what to do.And fairly quickly at that.
Now if she ate shrooms. You might want to ask her if she saw alot of funny colors.

Antifreeze will kill a dog in a few hours. The drunken behavior is the first symptom, followed quickly by malaise, and death. It doesn't take long. I don't know what effect mushrooms would have. I guess it might depend which variety they ate. The Vet should have these answers.

Vet's office said, antifreeze/other poisons would cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and slow painful death.
Didn't know about mushrooms, too many varieties, not probable.
More than likely an inner ear infection - clean with 50-50 water/vinegar. Use eardrops.
Possibly mini-stroke if too over weight.
Observe and bring in if worsened.
No reports of anti-freeze poisoning .

Our vet told us the safest thing to do if you see your dog eat unknown mushrooms is to force the dog to vomit. Depending on the dog's size, up to 1Tbs hydrogen peroxide in some water will cause them to eliminate the stomach contents fairly quickly, from the bubbling. This was for a German Shepherd puppy. A small dog may only need 1 tsp in some water to provide the same result.
