my oldest left the middle school several years ago to go on to the high school where it was a easy change for her. now my youngest has started at the middle school where she has so many classes and teachers in a day it is oerwhelming for her. i do not think she will be ready for high school because there does not seem to be enough time in a class to learn, she is smart, but this is too much of a change from elem to jr high, then it gets easier at the high school? i called the school, but the man i talked to agreed but offered no sound reasons just cost statements. it does not make sense to me. what happened? Can we do better for the kids:confused:

I just don't get it. I always read in the news about the kids of this community. Why is the interest on money and not educating the kids to be ready in such a competitive world. I feel frustrated. I am going to do something. I wish there were more educational options in this area. Faith Aca isout of the question fo rus. i have to work full time. I am goiong to do some checking around on why this is the situation. If anyone knows more please post

For many years it seems that we, the MFISD community(those paying taxes and living in this district) have had to be on a building spree almost in self defense due to the influx of families..... Now would seem to be the time to grow our schools academically as we should now be on top of the technological needs as well if our expenditures are any gauge.
Alternatives other than Faith ($$+) there is homeschooling which has a limited availability for advanced study at any public and affordable secondary school/college.
So, positive moves could be volunteering at school, visiting to read to classes, mentoring, and so on. I could not turn my back on all the other children, not when we, WE, both individually and collectively, can make it better. Going to school board meetings could be a plus as well...

I just wanted to correct this statement, that homeschooling limits your choices for colleges. It might have been that way a few years ago, but the times they are a changing. :D
http://www.hslda.org/docs/nche/Issues/C/CollegeEntrance.asp
"The most convincing argument to persuade most colleges to recognize homeschool diplomas was the track record of homeschoolers’ academic achievement. Over the past 20 years homeschoolers have scored at or above the average on standardized achievement tests at the elementary and secondary level, and have scored higher than average every year the last 10 years on the SAT and ACT college entrance exams.
The doors were flung open, and many homeschoolers entered institutions of higher learning across the nation, earning multiple degrees
My husbands cousins (3 of them) have/had full ride scholarships to their college of choice, all were homeschooled. They are also accepted into local community colleges for classes that can be "dual credit"

Faith Academy does offer alternatives for working parents and scholarships available . . . you should attend an information meeting to find out more. They have them about every month. I think they are accepting applications now for spring semester.

Whoop! Wonderful News for homeschoolers.
BUT, just my opinion, we still need to support and volunteer at our public schools.
Homeschool is just not a viable choice for many parents, esp single mom/dad.

I have two sons at the MF middle school. One in eighth and one in seventh. We moved here two years ago from a really small school. My sons have gone through hard adjustments to middle school life as well as changing from a school who has as many children from Pre-k to 12th grade that Marble Falls has in their middle school alone. I have discovered:
1. They are very strict and give no leniency (which I believe is to keep order amongst their 973 +- students) 2. All logic seems to go out the window with the age group in the middle school
3. With your encouragement your child will adjust and prosper
4. We have very caring, dedicated principals, counselors and teachers at our Middle School.
Getting involved and getting to know the school, how they operate, and why will help you make an educated decision on what's best for your daughter. Out of frustration and concern for my children I also at one point considered home schooling, Faith Academy, moving to another school district etc... I completely understand your frustration!

I have tried some of the suggestions. The few times I have been up to volunteer I have been not much help to alleviate the load of the teacher, but i have been able to help in the front office. Upon further thougth, I also realize that our high school teachers work about a day (hour for hour) less than our middle school teachers. the high school starts later and gets out earlier. Then, the high school teachers have class for 90 minutes as apposed to the mere 51 minutes the middle school teachers have. I hope they middle school teachers more.

I agree with Ann101. Parents who are actively involved with their children after school and on weekends will see their children prosper at the middle school.
