Give me a break! The city is going to spend $200,000 of our tax dollars for a tourism business to look at our city. But they can only pay their employees the MINIMUM salaries, based on the salary survey they did last year. Not even average. But they expect the employees to perform at the MAXIMUM, to make the city leaders look good. Makes me sick!!!!

Oh come on now. You know how it works.Spend a little on this and a little on that and maybe just maybe you will have a rush of furiners wanting to blow their money in this glorious torist town..

And see you have to spend alot so the top notch company can come to MFs and look around and say.HmmHmm Yes Yes I see,Looks Good. This is definately the place for people to flock too. We,ll send ya,ll our bill Bye bye now..

In the end it wont amount to a hill of beans for the industry.

Sounds like some bad spending choices. Who woulda thunk it?

The money being spent by the city on promoting the city for tourism comes from the hotel/motel tax fund.

That money is collected by the hotels for rooms that are rented and by state law, the money can only be spent on items that promote tourism to the town/area.

If that's the case, they are taxing too much, because there is too much to spend. If this is what is needed to spend the money, there is too much available. Still sounds like unnecessary spending.

If there is that much money to spend maybe we should try sprucing up the sign that directs people from 281 into downtown. An expensive arch may have been too much but the current sign, while nice, is far from "attention getting."

Marble Falls is a magnet by itself. We don't have to attract business or tourism. We just have to control it so we don't destroy the very reason people visit ... and many of us stay!

Well said, Nomos.

That "arch" would not have helped anything!! The proposal was to put it at 3rd and Main. You can't even see that intersection when you're whizzing through town at 35 mph! Spending $60,000 for that particular arch was sheer lunacy. You can bet I expressed my opinion to the city and the EDC. Goes right along with the fake waterfall proposal! I hope someone starts using some good old common sense about these proposals.

Whats worse. A 60k Arch thats perminent and may or may not do anything or 200k on suggestions on how to supposedly attract Tourists to a place that people All Ready know about??. As far as the water fall. I have seen the artists rendition and think its stinks myself. If they wanted water falls they should utilize the various creeks around town.

In the Sundays Paper there is an ad for those wanting funding for an event to get their apps in. Seeing as they want to eliminate 200k right off the bat people better hurry up and get them turned in or there wont be any left for anymore cokimami ideas.

Here's a good way for them to spend that money. They could invest in good, quality lighting for the Marble Falls signage and common areas. They could also accent the art along Main street. I of course would be willing to accept these funds. LOL???

Hey, just as well go for it. The alternative is to hire someone from out of town at an elevated cost.

JWebb, it took me years before I noticed that "Historical Downtown" sign! I sure hate big billboards though.

I recently attended my high school reunion and mentioned I live in MF, and someone said, "Oh, yes, Marble Falls is a sleepy little town!" Sleepy?

Primadonna, I don't like billboards either; however, I would like to see a more noticible sign directing people to our downtown area. Maybe not any larger but more colorful?

I read recently about banners that had been planned for the signal poles. Evidently there has been a problem with 'permission' from TxDot.

It seems like they can barely keep the streets maintained. Some of the streets here are horrible.

There are things that attract people to come here, and the sleepy little town is probably part of it. We must be careful to not detract from that in an attempt to "improve " something.

At city council on Monday, a Main Street store owner was literally in tears describing how bad business was for her and her two elderly employees.

Last I checked, the Bluebonnet, Chili's and the walmarks were doing OK. Maybe give the people what they want, and quit filling up your expensive real estate with high-end stuff no one buys.

Some of the people attracted to the "sleepy" little town are the crooks! Just check the parole board records and see how many convicts from around the state are paroling to Burnet County. Unbelievable!!! Those in the know, know why, too. Don't take my word, check it out for yourselves.

Yes, and unfortunately these economic times bring out the worst in society. The number of attempted scams, hot checks, and counterfeit money seems to come to surface. Most merchants in town still take personal checks, but I'm about ready to stop.

Curious, are you kidding me? Just saw your post about parolees coming here. I thought I was safe! Why are they coming here, it's expensive to live here. I don't get it. We don't need or want criminals here!

We (folks like you and me) don't get a vote. The crooks request where they want to go when they get on parole (which they will in about 1/4 of their sentance) and it is approved by the parole board. John Q Public isn't notified or even come into the equation.
