Why is the LCRA protecting Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, and Lake Marble falls? Hey guys were in a DROUGHT. Let’s let all the lakes take a hit inside of DRAINING Lake Buchanan. Drop Lake LBJ about 2 feet and see if anyone else gets any water after that. Just a thought by the way I don’t even live on any lake before you start whining about my post. :banghead:

My understanding is that LBJ needs a constant level for the power plant. And that Travis and Buchanan are flood control lakes.

Also go to the LCRA web-site and review the numbers concerning the volume of water contained in the various lakes. Changing the level of Inks and Marble Falls lakes would have very little impact on the situation.

What he said.
Those are just "pass through" lakes and there for hydroelectric generation and of no use for storage or flood control. The water has to come from the source and that's the first lakes in the chain and those with capacity, which Inks, LBJ and MF do not have.
It's just a matter of numbers.

Lake Buchanan was created for the purpose of serving as a water storage reservoir. Lake Travis was created to as a flood control reservoir. All of the lakes in between (Inks, LBJ and Marble Falls) were created for electric generation.

www.lcra.org has all the information on the lake system's purpose, function and more. Lots of good stuff on there.
