I used to shop at this grocer in Houston way back in the 80's. They always had nice fresh produce and other good items. I just read they are coming to HSB in 2012. I'm very happy to hear it and can't wait to see what they have in store.

If they have the same basic type store like they had in Houston they should do very well.. HSB residents will shop there and wont have to bother going into MFs.. Jamails was always a great place to buy food. They were a little pricey back in the day from what I remember but well worth it.

I remember Jamail's very well when they were in Houston and loved their stores. I was very sorry when they closed and will look forward to having them nearby.

Jamaii's always had the very best available in meat and produce as well as a wonderful assortment of prepared items you could take and warm at home. I am very happy they are coming to this area and can't wait to visit.

Occasionally shopped there in Houston when I wanted the best meat! Had the best of everything. Definitely pricey!

I have to second the good comments. I lived in The Woodlands, near Houston, when Jamils had a store there...Wonderful ! If they are as good as they were then, they will be successful in Horseshoe Bay. I worry that the prices might reflect the erronerous impression that everybody in HSB is rich. (whoops...sorry...we are not supposed to say "rich" anymore...we are supposed to say "job creators".)

I shopped at Jamail's when my daughter lived in the Woodlands, once. Never again. Their prices were so high it was absurd. Where are they now ? Looks like they would have learned their lesson.

Central Market, Whole Foods, in Austin, is a great place to shop for variety, quality and product integrity . While higher than regular super markets on some items , others are about the same. Problem is I spend more because of the great variety.lol

I wish Jamails good luck but when you shut out the middle class and cater only to the super wealthy your in trouble.
In my experience, wealthy people didn't get wealthy or stay wealthy by blowing their money on frivolity.

Bring on a Central Market or Whole Foods, something for everyone.

Amen, Belle. I was woking when I was in The Woodlands, so convenience was more important. Now that I'm retired, cost is more important. Sure hope, like you do, that Jamails learned their lesson. They closed their store when Krogers opened up close by The Woodlands.

Yeah, I was pretty young back when I went there so I wasn't the one paying, but I wonder what they will do about their pricing here. I wish we had at least some other grocery choice though. My experiences at the local HEBs have not been good. My main complaint is rotting produce and lack of cleanliness. I east mostly organic produce and the lack of it is an issue for me. I do buy what I can at the MF HEB but the trash lining the parking lot at the MF HEB store is a downright embarrassment to the community IMO and the store is always dirty - broken eggs in the cartons, goop on the floor, etc. Even Central Market was starting to have a hard time keeping their place clean by the time I left Austin. I've tried to complain at HEB headquarters but they conveniently don't have contacts for store or regional managers anyplace on their web site and their general customer contacts don't care enough to respond.

I know this is not an HEB thread but I must defend My HEB !

I find them very responsive to any complaint I might have had over the last many years.
Management starting with David Crail is very accessable. In order to try and keep prices down they have had to cut corners in many places but in the store at least 3 times a week I have never found a dirty store or neglected produce. I will say the produce manager was very apologetic for some items but that was due strictly to the drought and what's available.
There are some things which local management have no control over (like brand changes) but as far as cleanliness and courtesy and reasonable prices, I find them above reproach !

PS: Organic food sections grow with sales... not everyone insists on organic. A good wash in vinegar water makes it organic enough for me.lol

I like HEB as well...but I'm really depressed that they stopped carrying my Rosarita green salsa....

Over a month ago I asked one of the floor people to check into it and it appeared that he put it in his little hand computer thingy.....he said to check back in a week, but alas, still no Rosarita green salsa..... :(

The other green salsa wasnt as good & I refuse to buy it........

I kind of have to agree with BOTH Belle and Organicfoodlover. I've had bad and good experiences at HEB. Remember the bad bump at the exit of the parking lot by the traffic light ? I complained for over a year, but they kept saying that it was corporate's decision not to fix it. It finally got fixed.
I also see the "cart retreival" guys standing around when trash is right in front of them at the cart area or obvious in the parking lot. I suspect a supervisor rarely, if ever, checks on them or the outside area.
I've also complained many times about the lack of waste baskets at the entrance. That has been corrected to some extent. However....I'm forever aghast at the number of people that will take that last puff of a cigarette before entering the store and then deliberately toss the butt in the parking lot instead of walking an extra step out of the way to the butt can. Next time there, count the number of butts around the entrance and in the parking lot.

I usually shop the Kingsland HEB. I have to say that store's staff is awesome. If I miss an in-store coupon, they let me know about it at checkout, and often go retrieve one for me. I actually contacted their corporate office recently and paid that store a compliment for their staffing and customer care. A couple of days later I got a call thanking me for my good words about them. My only "complaint" about that store is that they don't carry some of my favorite brands, but I have to take into consideration that the Kingsland store is much smaller than other local HEBs.

I knew some members of the Jamail family when I lived in Houston. I worked for Yamin's (related to Jim Jamail) on Bellaire Blvd for a while. Their finances were messy, and I suspect that could account for their store's closing. I hope this part of the family has that "fixed". Nothing would look uglier than a big, empty grocery store in the middle of Horseshoe Bay.

Well, I did write to the main HEB corporate office again but no reply yet. I'll see but I won't be holding my breath.

If Jamails doesn't make it, I imagine someone else will move in - it's time for more options, the population has grown.
