Just looking at my calendar yesterday, I realized what day today, Friday, is....On Friday, May 13, 1994 a tornado ripped through Marble Falls. The carinval was in town, just like it is now, and the weather we had the last couple of days I think is a little weird.
(----Thank goodness we got some rain though!!---)
My husband and I lived in town at that time in some apartments, we had loaded up in the car to go to my Mom's to do laundry (we didn't have a washer & dryer), we had a baby and I was pregnant with our 2nd child. It looked awful outside but we didn't think a whole lot of it. We got to my Mom's house (out near Sandy Harbor) and found out from her neighbor, who had a scanner, that a tornado had just hit Marble Falls. What did we do? We loaded up and went back to town!! A tree had fallen on the roof of our baby's room. Thankfully we weren't there when it happened.
The tornado had ripped off part of the roof at the High School auditorium & it ruined the gym floor. Wal-Mart was located at what is now Sutherlands....the roof had been damaged and there was water in everything.
Of course it ruined the carnival and it really damaged the Pecan Trees in Johnson Park.

I thought I would just share some interesting memories :)

I was working at a church in Burnet that day, and when the storm went through Burnet (not as a tornado, just lightning and thunder) there was a power outage at the church. The computer was on, and all, yes, ALL, of the data in the computer was gone! Had to re-invent the wheel from scratch. As most of you know -- there are only two kinds of computer opeators -- those who have lost data, and those who will!! Been there, done that, ain't fun!!

Was volunteering at our oldest sons school in Burnet and overheard the lunch ladies talking about it. My husband and youngest son were out at Walmart when it hit...not a pleasant day to recall. Amazing no one was killed that day!

My child was in kindergarten out at Colt Elementary. It took an hour to get there from my office on Avenue J because of the downed trees and power lines. I arrived to some very frightened little ones and teachers sweeping hail down the hallways. The home we were in the process of buying lost it's roof, had a tree limb through a front window and had no fence. A very scarey day!! But amazing no loss of life.
