Well seeing as MFs doesnt want late night bars GS might could profit from it..A fast growing city like GS should take avantage of these opportunitys.

In big cities, there are grocery stores for every neighborhood but we have to drive to MF or KL. I would like a "real" grocery store.

I don't think we're going to see any substantial commercial development until we get a sewer system on 1431. But - a grocery store and a Dairy Queen would be nice (hint hint Kingchip).

I have to ask Oldtimer, what was the big beer truck doing off loading cases of beer at your establishment on PRR, last week? Didn't Council approve a liscense for you a few weeks ago ?

Oldtimer, please don't take offense and enjoy the free advertising.

I just thought it a little curious that you are so against other liqour servers while doing so yourself.

Personally, I don't care.

Drunk drivers are everywhere. One must be ever vigilant.:)

I need to see that I can staff one for a while before I put another in this county. I've only been fully staffed for about 4 months now, and bought in '01. I don't want to go through another 8 years like the first.

I'd love to have a sports bar - where you could play pool and watch several games at once. Husband would like a beer and me a Diet Coke as we watch the games. Maybe even have some snacks to go with it.

What I like about Granite Shoals is the quiet, peaceful place this is. I moved here because of what Granite Shoals IS. Not what I wish it would be.
Now people are wishing more houses would be built, grocery stores, dollar stores etc. WHY?! If you need all that, why are you living HERE?

It is a mere 10 miles up the road to HEB, or less depending where in GS you live. I don't understand why that is such a hassle for some out here.
So are you all willing to put the other small convenience stores totally out of business just to not have to drive 10 miles up the road? The cute little "Corner Store" wouldn't survive. Is that what you all really want?

Let's kill all the mom and pop stores in all communities because we as a society are just too darn lazy to drive up the road. A small, individual owned grocery store would never make it. They would have to charge too much for product, they could not be competitive. So HEB wins out in the end, as they do in every community that they have shut down the smaller stores in. You want HEB right here? Because that is the only store that would ever have a chance, and I highly doubt they would relocate from the center of this area to come to GS.

Don't pull out the tax revenue argument because that doesn't fly either. Your extra tax revenue would only cover the additional law enforcement, road maintenance, and other costs that come with higher traffic volume. So you never get ahead, you break even or worse. This is certainly evident by the constantly increasing taxes in every community in this country.

Also, huge multimillion dollar businesses getting huge tax breaks to set up shop and shut down everyone else. You know, those huge companies NEED freebies right? Why aren't those kind of tax breaks offered to mom and pop businesses too?

No offense intended to anyone with my reply-so don't take it the wrong way, :D I just don't understand it at all why people want to change such a nice, peaceful environment merely to eliminate a short drive up the road for groceries.

How about a autoparts store and hardware store maybe all in one would be nice. When the temps got in the lower teens had to make 3 trips to marble falls to get everything i needed to fix some water lines.

I agree. You have buildings that have fallen down and are deserted.... bulldoze them. (the old mechanic shop)
You have businesses that would benefit from fixing their fences, or even putting one up to hide what's there. Some businesses never mow or trim their weeds, that's not all that appealing either.

It really does appear to be a shanty town when you drive through GS on 1431 the very first time.

I looked and you are right! There are alot of abandoned buildings and such. I guess I have driven that road so much I just do not pay that close of attention to things like that anymore!

I know. You get used to it after a while. The first few times I drove that road, I was thinking the rest of the city must be awful if the main road in looked like it does. I can imagine a lot of people who don't actually venture IN to the town down PRR and such may be thinking the same thing. You don't expect that there will be multi million dollar homes in the city, when you drive down the dumpy main road in to town.

My point exactly, when you drive down 1431 (Kingsland too) the town looks really bad. There needs to be some type of ordnance that requires these businesses to have a certain "look". Fredericksburg requires that all of the businesses have a rock facing and be neat and clean at all times. Look at what has happened in that town over the past 20 years.

It's called desensitization. Just like when I moved to Buchanan Dam in 1984. It was beautiful. Over the next 20 or so years, it became a "Sanford and Son". It was so slowly that I didn't realize it. I moved to Burnet 10 yrs ago. Now, when I have to go out to Buchanan (West side) I shiver when I see it. I think, "My God, how did we live like this?" Back in the 1950's, Granite Shoals was a paradise for oil people from West Texas. Down through the years, not so much any more. Some paved roads would help, too. There's very nice homes with junky shotgun trailers right next door.

I can understand your thinking about the buisnesses but. Is Kingsland an Incorporated city?. I think they would have to be in order to have Ordinances.. And do you really need ordinances?. It would seem to me that if you have Biz in any local, that you truely want to be successful then you would make sure that it is clean.Well kept parking, grass mowed etc.. Most places of biz that do not follow that way of thinking generally do not survive very long.

No, Kingsland is not incorporated but Granite Shoals is and it would appear by looking as you travel down 1431 that ordinances are needed to get people to keep their businesses looking good.

Yes ordinances are needed! They need to include placement of business signs that do not block view of traffic in there too.
