So it time to secure some more government jobs for a select few and create a way to run people out of our area (harassment). A BWI (Boating While Intoxicated/Driving While Intoxicated Task Force ) task force ???? The funny thing is up until last year the existing patrol boats on the lakes did darn near NOTHING to secure boater safety with regard to water hazards and floating debris in the lake. Boy oh boy but they sure like cruising around in those 100K boats. For 12 years I have continually seen them drive right past the floating logs and shallow spots on our lakes that have the potential to kill. Now i understand these trivial tasks do not generate income for the authorities and writing citations do but come on, this is just no good for our area. I have lived here over 20 years and boated on all the lakes. The amount of harassment I and other boater have been subjected to over the years is totally unacceptable. As hard as the county and citys work to get people up here it just does no make sense. I cant count the number of families that are so disgusted about continually getting pulled over for a "safety check". Opinions?

A few things:

1) The task force does not create any new jobs, just pulls all of the law enforcement agencies together in a unified approach to BWI/DWI.

2) Marble Falls has had a "no refusal" DWI policy since 2008, if someone refuses to give a blood specimen a search warrant will be obtained for it. The AVERAGE blood alcohol level of DWI's arrested in Marble Falls last year was 0.22, almost 3 times the legal limit of 0.08. Are you ok with that? I live here, I am not.

3) If having safety checks and BWI/DWI enforcement is going to keep people from coming to the area, maybe we don't need those folks here anyway?

In a funny kind of way they are doing something about the floating debris.

But I say just stay off the lake. When the tax dollars quit flowing they may ease up abit. Also We dont need anymore pollution in the lake anyway. And the noise is horrendous.Make everyone get a paddle boat or canoe.

Drunks on the water are as bad as drunks on the road. We've had quite a few people injured and killed by drunk boating. Get over it.

Actually drunks on the water are worse because boats dont have brakes for the most part. Also its not just drunks that cause accidents on the water or the road. Its those who flat out have no good operating skills behind the wheel and even those who just dont pay attention.

Whats next though. Seatbelts in the boats Or maybe bring in TSA and station them at the boat ramps. Sorry folks.;)Its policy that you get groped before you board your boat.

Seems to me like you (not mentioning any names here) wouldn't be so sensitive if you weren't one or two of those "drunks" occasionally, or maybe it's my imagination. If you were sober and abiding by the law, why would you be offended?:p

And just who are you refering too?... I know it couldnt be me as I dont normally drink (with the exception of a glass of wine at dinner)and I surely dont get on Lake MFs.

As far as your statement of abiding by the law.. there are so many laws on the books that most folks will or could never know them all..And Yes It offends me.Why. Because its another case where it is supposed to be for your safety or All in the Name of safety. thats BS. The only one who can you safe is yourself. And you do that by being a responsible person or by being an aware/awake person.Quit relying on the false illusion that LEOs will keep you safe.

What's an LEO? Anyway, all I'm saying is that the ones who seem to be griping the most are probably the ones who get on the lakes drunk and don't like to be "interfered with" by Mr. John Law, because most drunks don't like interference!! Yes, I speak from experience with drunks!!

LEO=Law Enforcement Officer. Of course MOST drunks dont like to be interefered with but neither do familys who are just minding their own buisness and trying to enjoy the lake or outdoors. All this has been brought on by a few Bad apples who never had any respect for others. And This is another case of this country being a Police state.

It's not that I oppose this task force, but I've always believed our Game Wardens did a darn good job of patrolling our lakes. Did TPWD ask for this task force? Would Laura Putnam and/or other lake victims be alive today if this task force existed when she was killed?

The only reason I mentioned Laura Putnam is the fact that her killer didn't learn a thing from being slapped on the wrist with a 6-month sentence and probation. After he got arrested for DWI in San Antonio while on probation, he shot himself. He didn't die, but he didn't face any additional charges for the San Antonio DWI.

Maybe we should spend this money locking BWI offenders away for as long as possible. It's my understanding Laura Putnam's killer didn't like being locked up, and that's why he shot himself....

Just sayin'...
