Is it permanent?
Word from WH is that it will be non essential services. My question is, if they are nonessential, why do we have them?

I happen to like some of those "nonessential" services - national parks, for one. We had a trip to Big Bend planned for late April, but parks, museums, national monuments and so forth will close immediately. I suspect we might find there are a lot of other "nonessential services" we would miss dreadfully if the givernment shuts down for long enough.

We got a country going broke and you're worried about your trip to Big Bend.

If you are worried about Big Bend shutting down contact the U.N. After all they are the ones who have control over it as with most our National parks.. if the Goverment ever considered them "essential" they would never have given control over them away to the U.N.
As far as NON Essential.. Museums and parks should be run on donations and volunteerism..Maybe if there was more of that you would not see a need to be taxed more.

Politics.....Dem's think shutdown will negatively impact Rep's so they don't care if it shuts down. They see "political gain". Once again, the Politicians do want they want and ignore public good. After all, as Pol's see it, you work for them---they don't work for YOU.

The military has been expressly told they WILL be paid, regardless.

That's strange, apparently not ALL military are being told that story! Maybe certain ranks/branches are an exception?
