Where does a person go for shotgunning/skeet lessons? My daughter wants a shotgun to take up shooting. She has tried everything in my arsenal and has trouble hitting consistantly. I would like to set up with an area expert and I know that there are a few, to both teach her the proper technique, and see that she is fitted for the right shotgun for her. Then I can purchase that gun, and she can recieve more instruction.
Any ideas??? Any takers???

Chip, have you or her looked into 4-H shooting sports? There used to be a program (not too many years back) here in Burnet County.

Copperhead Creek is supposed to have their skeet and trap ready by November. I think they work with 4H, so they might have lessons coming up. Worth calling them.

Chip -- look into the Daybreak Rotary Club skeet shoot which is next weekend. Bring her out on Saturday, 8/21. She will get to see a lot of shooters and I'm sure there will be several people there who instruct. No charge to come out and watch. AND, if she wants, sign her up and we can put her into a team. There wil be shooters who only hit fewer than 10 clays and some who will hit 49 of 50. All levels, all fun. You know how to contact me so holler if you have questions.
Anyone can enter. $60/shooter and we furnish the ammo. Skeet and trap. Friday night dance, BBQ on Saturday, lots of fun.

She's a junior at TAMU and maybe too old for 4H but certainly too far to participate during the week. I'm visualizing somebody with an assortment of shotguns for her to try or be fitted for. Probably a lesson or two to assess what works for her. Then a trip to purchase said gun, and follow that up with some lessons to get good at it.
May look into the Rotary thing if I'm in town. My life has been topsy turvy since last november, and the project that is causing the issues is not over yet. I'm leaving for points south again monday or tuesday. I can't say I don't like going to the ranch, but the schedule is taxing.
As a sponsor for this site, I'm all for the Copperhead thing, but the timing is too late for dove season. I've been promising her a shotgun for several years, and she finally completed the Hunter Safety Course this weekend. I'm running out of excuses.
All good suggestions. Thanks and keep them coming.

I thought TAMU had a shooting program. 4-H state competition (small bore rifle, at least) is held at TAMU every year at an indoor range. Maybe there is somebody there who can help you.
The Daybreak Rotary thing sounds like fun.

Chip, I tried every shotgun available. For me the Belgian over and under Browning was the sweetest. I shot clay, handthrownlive(columbaire) and of course field. Until I became too blind to find my....with both hands.
I loved it's lighterweight versatility.
Wish I could see well enough to bring in a mess of dove!
I wish her happy hunting

Ended up at the San Antonio Gun Club. The instructor brought out a O/U, Pump, and SXS. After she decided, we found an experienced Browning Citori with both 20 &28 barrels and full set of chokes for both, in an original case. She is shooting pretty well and loving it. We are going after Geese in a few weeks, but needed bigger guns for that.
She has received two marriage proposals if the gun is included, thus far.
That hunt sounds good. There is much good grain country in that area. I however, will be in B/CS watching TAMU and tt go after it.

I'll hide this thread from my son. That gun sounds awesome!
