Since Walmart has closed their material dept. is there any businesses in our area that still sells it?
Thanks

There is a specialty fabric store behind American Bank. Pretty much quilting and calico only. There were some holiday fabrics, but not much else. Nice lady!

Guess we will have to all go to Austin or order over internet!

It is possible to get the fabric back into WalMart! There is truth to the squeaky wheel getting the grease. Call or go in and talk to the two managers that work in the store. Also, call corporate at 1-800-WAL-MART and COMPLAIN!! Pass this on to all your crafty friends and get them to do it, too! Cedar Park sewers/quilters/crafters called and complained and complained and complained and they now have their fabric dept. back.
So spread the word. Get dialing ladies!! We can pound some sense into 'em! ; )) :pound:

We could also make known to WalMart that if we have to go to Austin for our fabric that our basic household needs could be met there as well and not at another WalMart!

I hate to burst the pretty bubble, but Wal-Mart does not care what we want. Any number of us have talked to the manager and emailed and called the corporation to try to keep fabric in this store. I repeat--they do not care!! Unfortunately, they managed to run the smaller fabric shop(s) out of business. It's been many years since Marble Falls had any fabric shop(s). Pretty soon, you won't even be able to buy a spool of thread! Since Wal-Mart has turned the fabric section into party supplies, are they now trying to put the party store out of business, too? For one, I am frankly fed up with Wal-Mart.

Well with an attitude like that you're right, nothing would change for the better. Heck, why not just cash in your chips now if there's nothing we can do to change anything.
i see the glass as half full and know the power of a determined group. If we all want to change it and DO want needs to be done to make the change, it can happen.
The Cedar Park WalMart IS the perfect example of this. They called and called and complained and complained and got their fabric dept back.
I, too, am sick of WalMart as they don't care about the little guys. They don't care about supporting the American people and workers despite all their PR hype. So, do something about it. You CAN be effective. Spread the word... call, call, call. Batter up! :bat:
PS: there is a fabric store in Marble Falls. Ssshhhhh... don't tell anyone it is called the Nine Patch and is on Main St between 4th and 5th Streets.

I'm with mdarling.

Walmart doesn't care because the bottom line is the bottom line. It's simple economics. The fabric dept. didn't make enough money to justify the space and all the phone calls in the world won't bring it back.

If we support Party Makers, a locally owned shop, and other locals , Walmart's will quickly go away and they will bring in something else.

I can pretty much get all my basic household needs at HEB. a TEXAS owned enterprise that supports Texas owned farms/ranches/small businesses, etc. The purchases they make from Mexico provide jobs in Mexico for Mexicans.

All in all they (HEB) are a win/win operation for Texas.

I haven't shopped Walmart since sons of Sam changed the old man's business plan. Remember "made in the USA"

The fabric store in Marble Falls is no secret. It's called The Nine Patch. The owner is delightful. For those of us who are quilters, we are very pleased that the shop is here. However, not everyone wants to pay the price for quilt quality fabric; they would like something a little less expensive. You will you not find that here in Marble Falls.

And, say what you like sallygator--it may sound like attitude to you, but it's a fact of life with Wal-Mart. There have been dozens of us who have tried to KEEP the fabric section at Wal-Mart. Their whole attitude is "we'll do what we want". There are any number of Wal-Marts around that still have fabric, but according to their plans this will all be phased out over the next few years. It's just not profitable according to them.

I agree, HEB has all we need..Sutherlands and Ace Hardware all else.
PartyMakers is great, Rosie has or will get anything you need and her prices are BETTER than Walmart, Atkins for Rx.

:soapbox::soapbox::ban:Is it time for a TOTAL BOYCOTT of Walmart Marble Falls?

Not really into supporting Chinese Slavery myself!

When I spoke with a customer service person in Wal Mart she was just as upset as I am about the demise of the fabric department. She said she goes to Austin for her sewing needs now and buys groceries while she is there.

One thing I object to from those of us upset about losing this department: Women who go in there ranting at the clerks. The clerks in that department told me they were very intimidated by a few women - and a couple of times were even concerned for their safety. I'm sure no one on this forum is guilty; however, I just can't understand the mind set of anyone who would take out their anger for a corporate decision on a clerk.

I'm with you JWebb, the clerks have absolutely no control over what corporate decides to do. Probably, the managers don't either.

There are some real Lulu's out there! People need to remember those clerks are hourly employees making a living just like everyone else! They are not even in the chain of command to go to for something like this...GEEZ:banghead:

Okay, now we have to show our support as a thank you. That means spend money!!! Fabric purchases will show up in their sales printouts and management will learn just how sincere we are about this.

Wife will be happy that fabric is available once more at China Mart.

I'm still looking for a knitter to do some work for me.
