Does anyone know if it would be okay to mow along the roads, etc. where the bluebonnets bloomed this year? Had heard they needed to drop their seeds so that next year would yield another nice crop. We had beautiful ones in our area but now the grasses are so high they really need a good mowing.....thanks!

Go look at the plants and you will see the seed pods. Do not mow the plants until after the seed pods have opened.
My yard will not get mowed until 15 June to insure the blue bonnet seeds have had time to mature and the pods open. They all do not open at the same time.

Butch, such a good answer!
We have lost much of the bluebonnet crop along the highways since mowing was contracted out.
When Tx-dot was doing the mowing they knew better than to mow before the seeds popped. (Thanks to Lady Bird) Now we only have them at bridges and places where the mowers can't go.
They are scraggly and tacky while the seeds mature but the pay off is the abundance of blue in the spring!
If everyone will hold their horses we will have a mindblowing crop next year!
