Early voting starts tomorrow for the runoff for District Clerk. I know small town runoffs usually come down to family and friends showing up at the polls but for those of you civic minded citizens who are undecided and will go vote, I believe the choice to make is for Casie Wills. Having been to a few commissioners court meetings in the past, it makes a difference to me what the county does with my tax dollars. Putting all the gossip and c**p aside about each candidate, what we really need to be sure of is that our money is being invested and managed wisely. (I know, that's a sore subject!) Follow me on this one. A few months ago the commissioners approved the purchase of some new high-dollar ($1.2 mil) computer program to use for the county's record keeping. (Good, bad, or indifferent, it's a done deal.) I understand that the computer program is used by and affects almost all the offices at the county so that requires them all to work together. I also learned that there was quite a bit of training involved in teaching the county employees how to use the program. There were a few key individuals who were way more involved in making sure the information that they had in their old program got into the new program correctly. One of those key individuals was Casie Wills. Apparently, she spent many long hours wading through all that old information to make sure it was done right. Many workers at the county agreed she has a great work ethic. I asked about the involvement of her opponent and learned that she spent far less time training and then only for her court job and was less interested in attending extra training, even though she was running for office at the time. So, if we elect Casie, we protect that investment by not having to retrain a person to learn that program, the transition from the current district clerk would be much smoother and Casie would have the rest of the year to continue being part of the office she now helps run. Her opponent would be way behind the curve by the end of the year. Sorry for the long post but I think this is important. We gripe about government spending money but it's our responsibility to get people in office we can trust and want to work. Please vote!
