"An idiot, dolt, or dullard is a mentally deficient person, or someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way. More humorous synonyms of the term include addlehead, blockhead, bonehead, deadhead, dimwit, dodo, dope, dummy, dunderhead, nincompoop, ninny, nitwit, numbskull, stupidhead, thickhead, and twit, among many others."

I don't watch his show very often, but I have to say he has exposed some things within this administration that have proven true and shocking for me.

He made a comment one day that struck me as totally awesome - he said that the "Progressives" that control Washington today are not the true, America-loving Democrats that our grandparents and great-grandparents elected in the past. He said he believes the vast majority of Democratic voters ARE proud of our country - that they love it every bit as much as anyone ever could.

I think he's right. Maybe we lose sight of the fact that "crazy extremes" will choose one side or the other and claim to be a major part of "their side." We see this all the time with Christianity...for instance, this Westboro Baptist Church group. Those people are not Christians. They are the scum of the Earth, in my opinion. But, "non-belivers" will think, and try to make others think, of these Westboro nuts as "Christians."

I've said before that we, as a nation, can't lean too far to the left or the right. We have to find middle ground so that we can work together and preserve our freedom and our country.

I think fair-minded Democrats and Republicans CAN work together, and their mutual cooperation will help make this nation stronger, and keep it stronger. The Obama Administration is not "fair-minded." This administration has no concern for the freedom of the American people. They are
"Progressives" - and they have attached themselves to the Democratic Party.

Beck is, by the way, Mormon.

I'm of a different demonimation but I'm so sick of people picking on Mormons. Several years ago, my son joined the Mormon faith. I've been VERY impressed with the workings of his group. First of all, let me say that Mormons believe in the same Bible as we do, the St. James version of the Bible. They just add the Book of Mormon.

Saturday before this past Christmas, my son and his family were stranded 70 miles north of Cheyenne, WY, with a blown transmission. My son contacted the Mormon bishop in Cheyenne and he sent someone out to pick up wife and children. When they all got into Cheyenne, the bishop directed them to a motel (owned by a Mormon) and they stayed there FOR FREE for a WEEK AND A HALf a half while the vehicle was repaired. Not only that, the transmission was going to cost $3,000, which my school-teacher son didn't have. The Cheyenne bishop got in touch with my son's bishop in South Dakota and the Mormon chuch split the bill. My son paid nothing.

This is not the first time I've heard of Mormons helping Mormons, as well as fellow Christians.

I've seen the Baptist church help families (not to this extent). I've never heard of MY church helping this much in dire situations. I'm embarrased.

Therefore, if Glenn Beck is a Mormon, he's probably working for the best for all of us. What's wrong with that?

Have a blessed Easter.

Exactly! Chip, you nailed that one!

Fellowtownsperson - I agree with you about Mormons. They are hard-working, caring, giving people. You know what else amazes me about them? I think they are the most pro-active people in the world about adopting children.

And, guess what...the Mormon Church has its parasites too.

Peaches, that was my point, of course. I doubt that Bubba would watch Fox News even if it were the only channel available. I believe in exposure to many viewpoints. We get tons of left wing stuff from the liberal media, such as The New York Times. Note that the Times columnists are widely syndicated and appear in liberal newspapers all over the country. So, we get the liberal/progressive viewpoint coming out the kazoo. However, unless you watch Fox News, you aren't getting a dose of the opposite viewpoint. You can not make educated decisions without opposing viewpoints.

Add in to the mix the extreme left wing slant of the movie industry. Throw in the same from the entire educational establishment, from K-12 to colleges. It is almost amazing when any kid comes out of our propaganda system with even a minimal exposure to conservative viewpoints.

Here is a product of our education system speaking in Congress.

Bobby, did you read my post? I said we have extremist on both sides.

Nobody said Glen Beck's show is news. There are a number of Opinion shows on Fox, as well as MSNBC, CNN, and all the other Progressive-leaning "news" channels.

That said, what exactly has Beck said that makes you angry? It's a fair question...and you should be able to respond unless you're only listening to the "news" reports from those Media outlets that have so much interest in pushing the Progressive agenda - you know...the Democrats' parasites.

Beck's shows are typically backed up by facts and verifiable data. You'll be hard pressed to name something from his programs that is not.

Let's talk about extremes. How many thousands of times have you heard the term "Religious Right?" Plenty. Now, how many times have you heard the term "atheistic left?" None. I have never heard it, but I guarantee there is a huge group of atheistic communist leaners on the left. You just won't hear it from the left wing establishment media. The bias of the mainstream media is simply off the charts.

Let's see, he was a substance abuser ( recovering alcoholic and drug abuser), dropped out of college after 1st semester, diagnosed with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Here's some of his background, copied from webpage peaches, so need to mention that: This is where your getting your information from:
Beck’s mentor and manager at the station was a former Marine and surfing Mormon named Jim Sumpter. “I never had a doubt that Glenn was headed for huge things,” Sumpter told me on the phone from his radio studio in Florida, “but I didn’t see any indication of an interest in politics. I never for a moment dreamt that Glenn was, based on his lifestyle choices, a political conservative. If you asked me if Glenn would have ever been on the cover of Time magazine I would have asked you what you were smoking.”
Beck was channeling the decade of excess, doing cocaine, driving a DeLorean, and cultivating a collection of thin ties. He played the fool but did not suffer fools. “When we were in Texas, Glenn hated Texans, hated ’em,” Sumpter said. “Now he talks about how he just loves the people in Texas. He used to make fun of them—their belt buckles, the chunky jewelry, I mean the whole deal. And he just hated Mormons.”
It wasn’t just Mormons. Beck’s self-described mantra at the time was “I hate people.” Despite occasionally sharing the mic with a chimp named Zippy, despair was seeping in and Beck’s mood swings were alienating colleagues; one remembered him as “a sadist, the kind of guy who rips the wings off flies.” His competitive edge could certainly contain a cruel streak. When he faced off against a former friend in the Phoenix market, Beck called up the man’s wife on air after she had a miscarriage and mocked his friend-turned-rival, saying it was evidence that he couldn’t do anything right—he couldn’t even have a baby.7 (http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/09/22/glenn_beck_two/print.html)
Beck’s own personal life was suffering. His first marriage was crumbling and a daughter was born with cerebral palsy. Amid drug use and manic behavior, Beck wrestled with suicidal fantasies, writing later, “There was a bridge abutment in Louisville, Kentucky, that had my name on it. … Every day I prayed for the strength to be able to drive my car at 70 mph into that bridge abutment. I’m only alive today because (a) I’m too cowardly to kill myself ... and (b) I’m too stupid.”8 (http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-01-22/the-making-of-glenn-beck/5/)
By his late twenties, the onetime radio wunderkind had burned most professional bridges and found himself working at a radio station in New Haven, Connecticut, a comparative Siberia from previous postings. Divorced and with drug use and alcoholism spiraling out of control, Beck hit bottom. He went to his first AA meeting in 1994 and began a skeptic’s search for faith, starting with a self-taught great books seminar that included tomes from Hitler, Carl Sagan, and Pope John Paul II and culminating with his baptism into the Mormon Church.

I hope you enjoyed your long rant. Nothing new here, he said this about himself. That was then, and this is now.

Wow, tarheel you must be kidding me. "we understand you don't like the messenger" that's a good one, how about don't trust the messenger is more like it. I don't trust anyone who just rants and raves just to get publicity, he doesn't care about fact or fiction. You might as well goto the psych ward and get your information. He constantly uses race and race baiting, red scare tactics, Violent anti government rehetoric, Wild conspiracies, was happy we lost the bid to 2016 olympics, healthcare reform misinformation, do I need to go on? I thought I did answer your question, for a normal person the former post should be enough. Tarheel would you invest your money with someone who admitted all of that (previous post about glenn beck)? Would you trust your children with someone like that? Answer that Tarheel. He's an unstable person who uses hate and fear mongering to propel himself, and admits he's crazy and you have no problem taking information from him? Wow, Enough said.
About your Athiestic left comment, you want to know why you don't hear about them? Because they aren't killing people, not blowing up buildings, not marching or holding rallies, not starting wars, etc. etc..

The fact that Glenn has overcome so much warrants respect not denigration.

No, Bobby, you haven't answered the question. Nobody asked what John Avlon thinks of Glenn Beck. The question is can you point out something specific you've heard Glenn Beck say that makes you hate him? Answering that question requires something other than copy/paste from a web site.

Yes, Peaches, I answered the question. You don't like the answer too bad. Do I hate him, I never said that, show me where I said that? I don't prefer to get my Information from an entertainer, without a degree of any sorts, period. what is so difficult about that? I'm glad you like him, that's great, good for you. I don't. Have you seen the video of him putting vicks rub under his eyes to cry? I don't like anyone like him, either it be him or michael moore. He was a music dj before he stumbled upon politics, and once again doesn't have a education to make him qualified to be a pundit.

Here is that portion of that interview. She blew the answer, so you shoot the messenger for asking the question?

GLENN: Right. Here's then let me be more frank and ask you the question: Do you believe the government was any way involved with the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?

MEDINA: I don't, I don't have all of the evidence there, Glenn. So I don't I'm not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there. So I've not taken a position on that.

Caretaker...

I'm not a big fan of Glenn Beck. I think he has brought some things to light that might otherwise stayed in the shadows - Van Jones being one of those "things". But, in all honesty, he's over-the-edge, and too far to the Right for my comfort. I would not vote for him if he ran for public office.

Having said that, I don't think Beck intended to insinuate she didn't have the right to question the government regarding 9/11. For me, Medina's response to the World Trade Center question was disturbing. Her response, and her response alone, caused me to question her "political sensitivity" toward the victims of 9/11 and toward those terrorists who committed those horrible mass murders. Her response gave me cause to think she might be reluctant to hold those terrorists responsibile for their acts.

I am glad Beck asked the question. Voters needed to know that she was not willing to "take a position" on a conspiracy theory regarding governmental involvement in the events of 9/11.

The thing about Beck and all "political media professionals" (lol! I can't believe I'm using those three words together!!!) is this: You have to take the information they offer and analyze it carefully. You can't just take what they say and run with it. Every political news reporter has his/her opinion, and one way or another, his/her opinion is going to affect the way that person reports.

Therefore, I feel there is no clear-cut answer to the question posed in this thread" Glenn Beck - Phenomenon or a Farce?
