Hello Everyone, I was wondering if you have to have a license to raise quail in Texas. I can't seem to find anything about this on the parks and wildlife website.

Yes, you absolutely do. The fees to quail farm are not cheap and the paperwork, warden inspections, sign postings etc. are quite cumbersome. If you can't find it on-line, call them at Toll Free: (800) 792-1112. You will need to trek to SE Austin to TPWD headquarters anyway, so if in the area just stop by and get everything done at once. Best to consider quail farming a hobby, not a living.

Our ranch biologist might be able to steer you in the right direction. He is retired TP&W Biologist and consults on his own now.

For Bob White quail you probably have to have one.Seeing as they are a native Texas species. For Button quail or another type it may or may not be required. It would be similar to those who breed exotics.
Also if you look on craigslist.com you can often find breeders selling their baby chicks to help you get started.

He's a great guy and fantastic biologist. We had previously used some of the leading name biologists in Texas, and not seen the results that Macy has acheived in 4 years. Our deer rock and our habitat has improved exponentially.
He may be a little off, from watching him during some of our deer captures.
