Read in the weekend Daily Tribune that starting Monday the 15th, they're going to be online with no Tues-Fri paper. Only going to be a Weekend paper, the website is supposed to be updated regularly with news etc...

I guess those of us who like picking up a paper and reading it are becoming more and more rare. Still have the highlander so all is not lost....

That's disappointing.

I think that this is a prime case of discrimination against bird owners. I don't want to read more news online. What about starting fires in my fireplace?

Is the Highlander daily?
Also what about the subscribers who don't have computers.
I am with Nose though. I much prefer picking up the paper and reading an actual newspaper.

The Highlander comes out on Tues and Thurs. I just called the Tribune to tell them that I will be cancelling my subscription. I want an actual paper that I can fold under my arm and take anywhere. I have a hunch that this might be a test to see how readers react. I encourage you to call if you like it or don't. 830-693-7152 Tribune/Picayune

The Highlander's got you covered, more to read more to look at, more in-depth writing about the issues and happenings of marble falls. Detailed stories about events found in the hard copy of the paper Tuesday and Friday are written in real time as breaking news on the newspaper's Web site, which i think is the best of both worlds because you get the news as it happens and learn all the details in the preferred hard copy.

I can't imagine how anybody could fill a daily newspaper here in this area. There just isn't enough news without repeating a lot of stuff over and over and adding lots of "fluff".

And, newspapers don't make their money selling newspapers...they make their money by selling advertising. There's a lot of media here competing for those advertising dollars - other newspapers, radio, Fox Mail, etc. If they mail to subscribers, they have to adhere to strict Postal Service rules related to the percentage of news vs the percentage of advertising in order to get the "printed media" rates.

Throw in the cost of printing, and it's hard to break even in the news print industry. It's an expensive business to own and operate.

The bad news is this is probably going to translate into lost jobs - something we don't need right now.

Have never cared for the Daily Tribune since they went daily. Like Peaches said there is just not enough news to meet the demand.
I don't know what the difference is but I can read the Highlander print so much easier then I can the Daily Tribune so I don't really have a choice!

I have enjoyed the Daily Tribune. It has been nice to get the newspaper with fresh headlines in it. Before they went daily, you had to wait up to several days to find out about stuff. A lot of us on here spend a fair amount of time on the computer, but I know many people that wouldn't know the power button from their bellybutton.
