Museum Exhibition Features Apron Collection
February 11, 2010 – The 33rd Annual Needle Art and Quilt Show will open on Friday, March 5, and this year the beneficiary of the show, the Keystone Square Museum, will host an exhibition of needle arts for the kitchen. The exhibition is called “Stitchin’ in the Kitchen,” and it will feature the large apron collection of author and blogger Suzanne Labry.
Labry has been collecting since she was five years old. She says that she thinks showing her first apron to friends and relatives may have prompted them to give her aprons over the years. She notes, “Through the years, I have been lucky enough to receive dozens of aprons, and I love them all. I add to my collection whenever something catches my eye at a flea market or antique store. I’m happy to share my apron collection and I hope everyone will enjoy seeing them as much as I do!”
Labry’s apron collection includes many different types of aprons, including cobbler aprons, or the type that go over the head and have a large pocket in front, holiday-themed aprons (such as a Halloween apron), and fancy hostess aprons to wear when entertaining.
Suzanne Labry is a freelance writer, blogger, and quilt-guild speaker. She grew up in Anton, Texas, and holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Ottawa. She is a lifelong quilter and the author of Texas Quilts, Texas Women, published by Texas A&M University Press.
The 33rd Annual Needle Art and Quilt Show, “Stitches in Time,” will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Lampasas County Courthouse and the Keystone Square Museum. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 and are good for both days. Proceeds benefit the Keystone Square Museum, a non-profit organization located at 303 South Western, Lampasas. Please call 512-556-2224 for more information.
