I sometimes write a blog piece on subject about which I'm passionate. Sometimes serious, and sometimes just fun. I just finished a serious one entitled
William Bennett Creates Innovative History Series for Grades 8-12 (http://captjustice.com/2010/02/17/william-bennett-creates-innovative-history-series-for-grades-8-12/)
with an opening paragraph thusly:
This is big. The history of America (as opposed to simply “American history”) is a fabulous story in spite of the many bumps encountered along the way. It is a history of which to be proud to have inherited, to be a part of preserving, and to be a part of creating for future generations. Yet, sadly, as Secretary Bennett states below, it is not only our school children’s worst subject but it is being steadily illegitimized.
Click on the title above, read and tell me what you think. And let us know if you took any action as a result.

Gil, I am with you a 100% ,except I am not sure about Columbus.;)
The operative word in all of this is HONESTY
I have long fought for TRUTH in Texas History. I believe it to be the most exciting and interesting history of all the other states and people seem to have a need to muddy that water as well.
I enjoyed your piece on this issue and have sent my .02 to the powers that be.
PS: where did you get the first two chapters?

Um, that would be the first two VOLUMES! Amazon.com has them. America: the Last Best Hope. I think the third volume is about out.

(Update: Links to purchase the books. Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1595551255/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1595550550&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0ZQMEMYJ32KHPRCHN9MD) & Barnes and Noble (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/America/William-J-Bennett/e/9781595551252). No pecuniary interest in this — just an advocate for a better education in history. And go to the sample site (http://roadmaptolastbesthope.com/) for the online component of the history series as it would be used.)

Glad to see something from the other side. I recently saw in the news somewhere, that US History was going to start being taught from 1877 to present. A real travesty.

During my high school days in Houston (a long, long time ago) I learned that American History started at Reconstruction. You might say we didn't get the "History, the whole History, and nothing but the History" back then, either.

You are correct with that statement. And its because many out there do not want people to know the True History. Just look at Texas. Our state has one of the most unique historys there is and folks are not told the truth.Starting with 1845 then on.
